Statement of Faith

The Bible

We believe the Bible to be the revealed Word of God, fully and verbally inspired of God. II Timothy 3:15-17 “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”

We believe the Scriptures to be the inerrant, infallible Word of God, as found within the 66 books from Genesis to Revelation. I Peter 1: 23-25 “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” Proverbs 30:5 “Every word of God is pure: He is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.”

We believe God not only inspired every word, but has preserved them through the ages. God supernaturally intended the transmission of the Bible through the years, so that in the King James Bible we have, in fact, the Word of God. Isaiah 40:8 “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.” Psalm 12:6-7 “The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.”II Peter 1:19-21 “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”

God

We believe there is one God who is eternal and infinite.

God has always existed. Psalm 90:2 “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.)

God is not bound by time. Psalm 90:4 “For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.”

God is immutable, He cannot change. Malachi 3:6 “For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.” James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

God is omniscient, He knows all of the past, present, and future. Acts 15:18 “Known unto God are all His works from the beginning of the world.”  Isaiah 46:10 “Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:”

God is omnipotent. His omnipotence is seen in His power to create, in His power to maintain all His creation, and in His care for us. Hebrews 1:3 “Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;” Psalm 118:6 “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?”

God is omnipresent. He is everywhere at all times. Jeremiah 23:23-24 “Am I a God at hand, saith the Lord, and not a God afar off? Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord.”

God is sovereign. His authority is total and nothing is out of God’s control. Daniel 4:25 “That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.”

Jesus Christ

There has never been another like Him nor will there ever be. Jesus Christ is the central theme of the entire Bible. Every person that has ever lived was either looking toward Jesus Christ or looking back at the miracle of His life. He split our world history in two. He is the centerpiece of our faith and was God in the flesh.

Jesus Christ existed as God before His own birth. John 8:58 “Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.”

Jesus asserted His own deity. John 10:29-30 “My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one.”

Jesus was given names of deity. Hebrews 1:8 “But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.”

Jesus was worshipped as God. Philippians 2:9-13 “ Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”

Jesus was born of a virgin by the Holy Ghost. Luke 1:35 “And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.”

Jesus was tempted but He never sinned. Hebrews 4:15 “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”

Jesus died on the cross for the sins of all men. Matthew 27:35 “And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.”

Jesus rose from the dead and was witnessed by many. I Corinthians 15:3-8 “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.”

Jesus ascended into Heaven where He intercedes on our behalf. Hebrews 7:25 “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.”

Jesus will meet His church again. I Thessalonians 4:13-18 “But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”

Jesus will return to earth to set up His millennial kingdom. Revelation 20:6 “Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.”

Jesus will be the object of glory and honor in Heaven forever. Revelation 5:12 “Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.”

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is a Person. John 16:13 “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”

The Holy Spirit is God. Hebrews 9:14 “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Psalm 139:7-10 “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.”

The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and Jesus Christ. Matthew 28:19 “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:”

The Holy Spirit indwells the believer at salvation. I Corinthians 6:19 “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?”

The Holy Spirit fills the believer with His power. Ephesians 5:18 “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;”

Sin and Salvation

Sin literally means to “miss the mark” of God’s holiness and glory. Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

Sin entered the world through Adam’s disobedience to God. Romans 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”

The result of sin is separation from God. Romans 5:10 “For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.”

There must be a payment for sin. Hebrews 9:14 “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”

There is forgiveness of our sins made possible by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and our confession to Him. I John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. There is no other way for forgiveness of sins and eternal life except by faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

A sinner repents when he turns from his sin to embrace salvation in Christ. Acts 3:19 “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.” (Paul speaks of repentance while witnessing to King Agrippa)

A believer can have assurance that his salvation is eternal through the power of Christ. John 10:28 “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”

The New Testament Church

We believe God established the church to fulfill His plan on the earth. The church is God’s primary plan fo the advancement of His Kingdom today. Matthew 16:18 “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

We believe the church began when Jesus Christ called out the twelve apostles. Matthew 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

We believe the local church is an assembly of baptized believers who meet together for instruction in doctrine, fellowship, worship, and prayer. Acts 2:41-42 “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.”

We believe there are two ordinances of the church: baptism and the Lord’s Supper. These are a picture of what God has done for us in salvation.

Baptism is a public testimony of a person’s faith in Christ. Acts 8:12-13 “But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.”

The Lord’s Supper is performed as a memorial to Christ’s death. I Corinthians 11:23-26 “For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.”
